Historic Ancud – Penguin Colony

The stunning Pacific coast of the island is the only place in the world where Humboldt and Magellan penguins share their nesting habitat. This trip will lead us to the north side of Chiloe Island, with great views and immersed in the local history. Your guide will meet you at the Hotel at 9:00am to drive up north, to Puñihuil Bay, where this natural monument is located. Unique place in the world, where both Humboldt and Magellan Penguin nest side by side. Once on board we will head to an islet where for half an hour we can identify several species, like penguins, birds and other animals that nest and live in this place such as, cormorants, pelicans, Carancas and the occasional sea otter. After sailing, we will have lunch at a local restaurant where you would be able to taste fresh local products from Chiloe country and seaside. After lunch we will head to Ancud, which was once Capital of Chiloe Province. We will stop to visit its Fort and the “Friends of Chiloe Churches Foundation” which plays a very important role on the restoration and diffusion of these World Heritage Monuments.

Worl Heritage Churches (UNESCO), Dalcahue and Quinchao Island

Early in the morning we will leave Castro and head to Dalcahue. Here we will visit its Church from 1858, World Heritage. We will walk along the market, where local woolen and basketry crafts can be found. From there we will take a ferry for 10 minutes towards Quinchao Island. Our first stop will be Curaco de Velez , with its beautiful and well preserved houses, where we will taste and enjoy the famous oysters. Later we will arrive to a small town called Achao, where we will find one of the most beautiful wooden churches and the oldest in the Province is located. We will have enough time to walk along the church and town. After this we will head back to Castro.
